About the Process

Skill + Clay + Glaze + Time3 = Beautiful Things

It typically takes 2-6 weeks to make a piece of pottery from start to finish. It is an artistic medium that does NOT like to be hurried!

Here's a very simplistic description of the process, with lots of time sprinkled in between each step.

Forming/Throwing

Soft clay is formed into a shape. For many of our pieces, this is done on our pottery wheel.

Altering

Trimming, applying a handle, carving, adding underglaze details, etc.

First Firing

Dried clay is fired to about 1900 degrees (F).

Glazing

A liquid glaze is applied by brushing or dipping.

Second Firing

The pieces are fired again to about 2200 degrees (F).
